The Tennessee Gamma Chapter of the Phi Delta Theta was founded at The University of Tennessee on September 16, 1963, as the third chapter in the state—following TN Alpha at Vanderbilt, and TN Beta at the University of the South. 1963 was a critical year in all of Phi Delta Theta as the General Headquarters instated the colony system for expansion. With the new growth plan, TN Gamma became the first chapter developed under this system, and helped create many colony symbols still used today.

In December 2001, after the charter was revoked for straying from the principles of Phi Delta Theta, the chapter re-colonized, and on October 18, 2002, the chapter once again received its charter from General Headquarters. Since 2002, our chapter has rooted itself in the ideals of the Phi Delta Theta. We are a non-hazing fraternity, and pride ourselves in strong academics and social events. We take part in campus activities such as Homecoming, All-Sing, Dance Marathon, enjoy mixers and date functions, and participate in intramurals.

    Silver Star Awards
The Silver Star Award is an honorable mention excellence award with slightly less demanding criteria than of the Gold Star Award. Qualification for this award still requires excellence in overall operations with slightly lower requirements needed in scholarship, chapter management, alumni relations, and community service. Kansas Beta has won the Silver Star on 11 occasions. (Source: GHQ)

The Pallas Committee should be made up of a Chairman, the Phikeia Educator, the Scholarship Chairman, a Junior or Senior member, and an Alumnus if possible. The format of each committee could vary from chapter to chapter.
Pallas Committee meetings should be held in roundtable fashion to put the Phikeia at ease. The Phikeia should meet with the committee seperate from other Phikeia but his Big Brother should be present. This meeting is a chance for the committee to praise what the individual is doing well and address any areas of concern. There should also be time for the Phikeia to give feedback on the program and any issues that he is having with classwork, the Phikeia Program, and any problems with Phikeia brothers or active and alumni members.
